Friday Night Smackdown: TV Report
2/15/08
Houston, Texas
Report by Bryan Randles

-Standard Smackdown opening takes place this week. Excessive Pyro brightens the stage and Cole welcomes you and I to the show.

-They go right to the action as Batista makes his way out for a match. Cole calls his ovation thunderous. Along with Coach they discuss the chamber for a moment.

-The clock begins to tick and MVP pops out of the moon walk set-up then heads down the ramp. Coach says some call him a dark horse, but when you think of what he’s accomplished he should be a favorite

BATISTA VS. MVP

-The bell sounds and MVP locks up with Batista. He uses his power and pushes MVP to the corner and he gets in the ropes to break the hold. They lock up again and MVP manages a side headlock. Tista throws him off the ropes and hits a shoulder block. MVP bails to the outside and rethinks his strategy. He gets back and Batista goes for a lock up, but MVP gets in a standing waist lock. Batista gets an arm drag out of it and then a slam and MVP again heads outside.

-MVP gets back in after he shakes off the cobwebs and comes with forearms to Batista’s melon. He comes right back with a big right hand of his own and MVP drops with quickness. Batista pounds on him in the corner and delivers a snap mare and then a big kick to the side of the head. A delayed vertical suplex that MVP kicks out of at 2 follows. Batista runs at MVP in the corner, but a drop toe hold sends his face into the bottom turnbuckle.

-Batista starts working on MVP’s leg, dropping an elbow on it. He then puts in a leg lock and wrenches on it occasionally. He gets MVP back up and sends him into the ropes. It’s reversed by MVP and then he leapfrogs Batista, but he turns around and takes out MVP’s knee. He then locks in a figure four on MVP! MVP is writhing in pain on the mat, but fighting the hold. MVP gets to the ropes and breaks the hold. MVP gets out of the ring and limps around on pain and they go to commercial 6:00 in.

-Back from the break, Batista drives his shoulder into MVP in the corner. MVP comes back with a knee to the gut and throws him shoulder first into the ring post. MVP goes for a pin and gets a 2 count. MVP puts the boots to him in the corner and the ref makes him back off. MVP goes outside and works Batista’s arm over the ring post. He gets on the apron and yanks his opponents arm over the top. He gets back in and hits the running kick to Batista’s skull. This gets a 2 count. MVP holds onto Batista’s arm and he throws him off weakly. MVP sends him outside and goes out after him. He throws him shoulder first into the ring steps then goes back in to break the count. MVP then throws Batista back in the ring.

-MVP ends up back outside slamming Batista’s arm into the ring post again a few times. MVP goes to do it again and Batista pulls MVP into the ring post. He slams MVP into the ring apron and then throws him back in the ring. He climbs up top and hits a big shoulder like Lawrence Taylor on MVP! He whips MVP into the corner and charges him, but MVP gets the boots up. He runs out of the corner at Batista and he hits a spinebuster. He goes for the Batista Bomb, but MVP blocks it and knees Tista in the face.

-MVP comes running at Batista and he hits another spear on him. He then hits the Batista Bomb and gets in the win.

***Batista wins clean via pinfall in 15:00. (**1/2).

-Backstage they go to Edge with Hawkins and Rider. They ask Edge if he has any advice for them about their big match later. Edge said he had to much on his mind to worry about that right now.

-The John Cena, don’t do ‘roids commercial aired. I will keep my mouth shut.

-Hawkins and Rider make their way out as part of an 8-man tag match.

-Their teammates from the other side of the tracks come out. That would be Deuce & Domino with Cherry.

-Their first set of opponents, Shannon Moore & Wang Yang head out next. Coach says they grow on you in a good way. Cole expressed his love for them.

-Biscuits and Gravy blares and Jesse & the new and improved Festus come out.

HAWKINS & RIDER & DEUCE & DOMINO VS. YANG & MOORE & JESSE & FESTUS

-The bell sounds and Festus goes off on Rider. Festus tags in Jesse who comes off the 2nd rope on Rider. Moore now gets tagged in and he works on Rider in the corner. He throws Moore away and tags in Hawkins. He hits a snap suplex on Moore for a 2 count. Deuce now comes in and puts a knee to Moore’s head for a 2 count. Duece puts in a headlock and Moore fights out, but gets whipped into the corner. Deuce tags in Domino and Moore finds an opening to tag in Yang.

-Yang flies off the top with a big cross body and then a dropkick. The action breaks down and Moore and Jesse team up for plancha’s to the outside on Hawkins and Rider. Back inside the ring Yang hits the moonsault press off the top on Domino for the 3.

***Yang & Moore & Jesse & Festus win in 3:00.

-After the match the bell rings and the heels beat on the faces. Cole wonders why Festus is just standing there. A beaten up Jesse is able to reach up and ring the bell causing Festus to go nuts. Festus slams around all the heels and clears the ring. Once they head back towards the ramp Jesse rings the bell again to subdue Festus.

-Backstage Vickie is with “Jen” who is doing her make-up. She asks Vickie if she thinks Edge is going to pop the big question. Vickie hopes so.

-Diva time and Michelle McCool is making her way to the ring. Cole talked about her situation with Noble and Palumbo. They rolled the footage from last week.

-Victoria is her opponent headed to the ring.

-Chuck Palumbo’s music hits and Cole says, “oh no.” Michelle looks nervous about this.

MICHELLE McCOOL VS. VICTORIA

-Palumbo is revving his engine outside the ring and Victoria gets the advantage on a distracted McCool. Victoria puts in a headlock sitting on the top turnbuckle and McCool tries to fight it off. She gets on the 2nd turnbuckle and they trade fists. They both ended up spilling to the outside all the way to the floor falling off the top rope. Strange looking, but both girls appear to be ok.

-Back in the ring McCool hits a clothesline and again is distracted by Palumbo. Victoria hits a kick to the gut and then nails the widow peak for the win.

***The distraction of Chuck causes McCool to lose and Victoria to win in 3:00.

-After the match Palumbo got in the ring and yelled Michelle. He asked Michelle if she enjoyed what she was watching right now. He said he didn’t think so. He added that she better get use to it.

-Back from the break lightening strikes. An eerie calm surfaces across the arena and puffs of flames emerge. The fog wanders the path of the dead man and well, the Undertaker is making his way to the ring.

-His opponent is Big Daddy V with Matt Striker and here they come. Plenty of Chamber discussion for their long entrances.

UNDERTAKER VS. BIG DADDY V

-They lock up and V pushes Taker into the corner. They lock back up and V smashes a forearm over Takers back. He drives forearms into him in the corner. V then whips Taker into the opposite corner, but he comes back with a series of big rights hand on him. Taker drives an elbow into V and rings the arm. He uppercuts it at the elbow and Striker gets on the apron. Taker runs over and takes him out, but the distraction allows V to clothesline his opponent. He sends Taker outside and the recovering Striker cheap shots him.

-V goes outside and hits some chops and Taker comes back with more big right hands. He tries to drive V’s head into the ring steps, but V does it instead. They go back in the ring and V goes for a cover and only gets 2. V pushes Taker into the corner and goes for an avalanche, but Taker moves and then hits a clothesline. He rings the arm again and goes up top and hits the old school. V goes down to one knee and gets back up only for Taker to clothesline him up over the top rope. Taker gets him up on the apron. He hits the big leg drop from the apron to the floor across V's throat.

-Back inside Taker hits a big DDT that ends up getting a 3 count.

***Undertaker gets the win over V going into No Way Out in 5:00. (3/4*).

-After the match, Taker gets his hands on Striker and gives him a big chokeslam. He puts Striker in the inverted tri-choke and Striker taps like mad. Taker breaks the hold and Striker goes limp.

-Backstage Edge is pacing around in the looker room.

-They go back to Cole and Coach and they wonder if he’s popping the big question. They talk about No Way Out and run the piece on the chamber they’ve been showing. They run down the rest of the card. (Sometime in the next 24 hours (maybe tonight) I will be posting my usual PPV preview and predictions of the show here on Gerweck.net).

-Kane is on his way to the ring and they head to a break.

-His tag team partner is CM Punk and he comes out after the commercials. Coach and Cole talk about his program with Chavo.

-Shelton Benjamin, one of their two opponents is next.

-His partner, Chavo Guerrero is last to enter.

KANE & CM PUNK VS. SHELTON BENJAMIN & CHAVO GUERRERO JR.

-Kane and Chavo kick it off and have a stare down. Kane with a press slam on Chavo. Kane tags in Punk as he works on Chavo in the corner. Punk with a body slam and a cover on Chavo that gets a 2 count. Benjamin gets a tag and receives a dropkick from Punk. He whips Benjamin into the corner and Punk hits him with forearms. Benjamin comes back with a t-bone suplex and gets a 2 count. Shelton slams Punk then tags in Chavo.

-Chavo works over Punk in the corner and the ref pulls him off. With the ref distracted Shelton works over Punk. Shelton gets the tag back in and goes for a power bomb, but Punk slides off and delivers a kick. He tags in Kane while Chavo also gets tagged in. Kane throws him and then hits a big back body drop. He also hits a side slam and goes up top and connects with the flying clothesline. He goes for a cover, but Shelton breaks it up. Kane goes for a double chokeslam on both and they wiggle out of it. Punk makes a blind tag to Kane and they clear Benjamin from the ring. Punk hits GTS on Chavo for the win.

***Punk and Kane get the win in 5:00. (*).

-It’s time for the Raw rebound. It starts with October 1st when Cena tore his pectoral. The music turns somber with McMahon announcing on ECW that he was going to be out for a while. They managed to find a clip where fans weren’t cheering for his departure. They clip in Cena saying he decided at the 11th hour to make a choice, while showing him returning to the Rumble. Then move to a cut up version of his and Randy’s promo the night after the Rumble. Well, you get the idea. It continues on with what happened week to week building to No Way Out. (I already wrote this in my PPV preview that you can read soon here on Gerweck.net)!

-They go to commercial.

-When they come back Khali makes his entrance.

-Following out are Finlay and Hornswoggle.

-They cut to a lengthy piece on the McMahon/Finlay/Horny saga.

GREAT KHALI VS. FINLAY

-Finlay kicks at Khali’s knee to start then gets thrown aside. Khali puts the boots to him in the corner and is stopped by the ref. Finlay meets him with some kicks of his own before Khali dumps him outside. He goes after Finlay on the floor and throws him into the steps then gets back in the ring. He raises his hands and yells while Finlay struggles to get back in the ring. Once inside Khali hits him with a clothesline and bodyslam. He puts on the nerve hold across the shoulder. Finlay fights it and gets to his feet throwing elbows into the gut. The hold gets broken, but Khali gives him a big boot.

-Khali throws him into the corner, but Finlay dodges his charge. He goes up top and jumps, but Khali catches him by the throat and gives him the tree slam. While the ref is checking on Finlay, Horny enters the ring with the shillelagh and hits Khali with it. It doesn’t phase him and Khali tries to chokeslam Horny. He throws him aside and the ref checks on him. Finlay hits Khali with the shillelagh and gets the victory.

***Finlay wins with help from the shillelagh in 5:00. (1/4*).

-Backstage Teddy is wheeling Vickie down the hall. She says she wants this to be here special day and asks Teddy if he is happy for her. He says “no doubt” in sheepish fashion.

-It’s time for the wedding as Edge makes his way out. Violins play as he walks down the ramp. Balloons are tied to the ring posts and flowers decorate the barricades. A red tarp is in the ring with one big heart in the center and two smaller ones to the side.

-Edge takes the mic and calls this surreal. He said he’s been in TLC matches, Wrestlemania matches and championship matches, but this is the first time he’s been nervous. He said they call him the rated-r superstar, but tonight the R stands for, “really really in love.” He then asks Vickie to come out for his special question.

-The violinists play again as Vickie gets wheeled out by Teddy. Huge heel heat on Vickie. Teddy helps her up the steps and Edge holds open the ropes so she can get in. Teddy slides in her wheel chair which is decorated with pink and red boa feathers. She sits back in the chair as Edge holds her hand and the violinists continue to play.

-Edge tells Vickie that before he asks the special question, he wants to sing Vickie a special song. The song is from a canadian, Bryan Adams. Edge starts to sing, badly of course, “love is all that I need, and I found it there in your heart. It isn’t too hard to see that we’re in heaven.” More boo’s come down from the rafters on Edge. He says he thought the World Heavyweight Championship was the most important thing to him, but he’s found something more so.

-He gets down on one knee and Vickie’s eyes get teary. Edge wants Vickie to make him the happiest guy in the world. “Vickie, will you be my wife?” More boo’s as Vickie says she will. They kiss and also eskimo kisses! Edge hugs her and they talk back and forth to themselves away from the mic. The camera gets a close-up shot of the ring on her finger.

-Mysterio’s music hits and the crowd erupts. Rey tells Edge and Vickie to not “trip.” He says he just came out to congratulate them. He thinks he can speak for everyone when he says this is the most disgusting thing he’s ever seen in his life. He tells Vickie that since she is getting married he seriously hopes she’s dropping the Guerrero name, because she’s disgracing it.

-Edge fires back and tells Mysterio that he better apologize or after No Way Out he’ll be the one in the wheel chair. Rey gets in the ring and the fans chant, “619”. Mysterio starts talking in spanish and says he’s done apologizing. He wonders how much Edge will love Vickie after he beats him for the belt at No Way Out.

-Edge charges at Rey, but Rey moves and Edge gets hung up on the ropes. He hits a 619 on Edge and then comes off the top with a springboard and Edge moves and he nails Vickie in the chair. Edge tends to Vickie and yells back at Rey as he goes up the ramp.

-They replay what happened a couple times and go back to the “live” footage. Rey’s at the top of the entrance way and Edge is looking back at him angry.

Show goes off the air.
