The Greensboro Coliseum
-They go right to the opening promo and pyrotechnics. Soon followed by Adamle welcoming us to “Super Tuesday.” They hype a “Cutting Edge” segment for later tonight with Kane as the guest.
-Kelly Kelly makes his way to the ring. They reference the dance off from last week and Adamle called Tazz a “dance master.”
-Tommy Dreamer heads to the ring and will be Kelly’s partner in a mixed tag match. They run the footage from last week of Delaney vs. Knox. Kelly and Tommy are then shown discussing some strategy in the ring, which Kelly found to be funny.
-Layla is Kelly Kelly’s counterpart for this contest.
-As you may guess, Mike Knox will be Dreamer’s counterpart.
TOMMY DREAMER & KELLY KELLY VS. MIKE KNOX & LAYLA
-Layla and Kelly start it off, but Knox soon gets a tag and Dreamer comes in bringing fists to Knox. Tommy bounces off the ropes, but gets nailed with a clothesline by Knox. Mike goes to work in the corner, then runs towards Dreamer who gets a boot up. Kelly and Layla now get tags and Kelly hits a dropkick then heads up top for a big cross body. Knox broke up the pin attempt, and Dreamer ran in and clotheslines Knox up over the top. Layla goes for a vertical suplex that Kelly reverses and she hits the fameasser for the win.
***Kelly Kelly & Tommy get the win in 2:13.
-After the match Knox attacks Dreamer and hits his corkscrew neckbreaker finisher.
-A commercial airs for the Batista vs. Taker match on Smackdown this Friday.
-Adamle sends us back to Raw and they show clips of each presidential candidate’s speeches, where they insulted every wrestling fans intelligence.
-John Morrison makes his way out with the Miz at his side. Miz is not dressed to wrestle, and he heads to the announce table. Miz gets a shot in on Adamle, calling him “legendary,” and referring to Morrison as Tarzan.
-Yang makes his way out, and will be Morrison’s opponent. Miz asks Adamle if Yang is, “Jamaican him crazy?”
MORRISON VS. WANG YANG
-Morrison goes for a clothesline, and Yang ducks it then hits a frankensteiner. Morrison ends up outside and Yang catches him with an elbow when he gets back in. They run the ropes with Yang attempting a leapfrog, but Morrison catches him, and slams him down by the leg. Morrison kicks at Yang’s leg and continues to work on it. Morrison goes for another kick, but Yang catches it and hits an enziguiri. Yang now hits a huge monkey flip that had Morrison do a 360.
-Morrison goes for the corkscrew moonsault in the corner and misses it. Yang quickly heads up top and hits the moonsault press for the win.
***Wang Yang picks up the win in 2:59.
-After the match Miz is upset with Morrison for not being able to get the win. They bicker back and forth.
-Adamle hypes a “rare” cutting edge segment for later tonight.
-Now it’s time for one of those sponsored look backs at Raw. It’s basically a highlight of the KOTR Raw tournament.
-Tazz puts over Regal as KOTR and Adamle calls him the “Toast of the Town.”
-They run down the card for Backlash. I’ll have my preview & predictions for the show this weekend on Gerweck.net as usual.
-Kofi Kingston is shown preparing for a match in the back. Tazz mentions he has a big match with Shelton Benjamin tonight. Finally! Benjamin walks up to him and Kofi says, “Oh Snap.” Kofi recalls Benjamin as being a former Golden Gopher. He then wishes him the best of luck, and offers a handshake. Benjamin mentions that Kofi is undefeated, but that ends tonight. Kofi really reminded me of Doug E. Doug from Cool Runnings here. I wonder if thats becoming the angle of his character?
-More hype for the “rare” cutting edge segment for later tonight.
-Kofi Kingston makes his way out. Tazz says “Jamaican me crazy.” He then urges Adamle to say it, who does ends up yelling it out. At least they’re having fun with the goofy stuff Adamle said last week.
-Shelton makes his way out. It sounds like his entrance music got remixed.
KOFI KINGSTON VS. SHELTON BENJAMIN
-After some arm work by Shelton Kofi hits a huge dropkick. Shelton comes back with a side headlock and is thrown off into the ropes by Kingston. Kofi hits the mat as Benjamin jumps over him. Kofi gets up and lunges at Shelton who catches him, and hits a shoulder breaker. Shelton goes back to work on the arm, putting in an armbar. Kofi comes back with a cross body off the ropes, but Shelton catches him with an armbreaker and then kicks at the arm while Kofi lays on the mat. They go to the ropes again, as Kofi gets whipped, but he holds onto the ropes. Shelton runs at him and is sent over the top, but he grabs Kofi’s arm and yanks it down over the top rope. Shelton climbs up top and jumps off and Kofi catches him with a dropkick in mid-air.
-Shelton comes back on offense reapplying and armbar. Kofi going for an armdrag out of it, but Shelton won’t let go and keeps the hold in. Kofi works out and Shelton comes right back at him with a shoulder block. Shelton goes for a big boot, but Kofi ducks and quickly hits “Trouble in Paradise.” Or the buzzsaw kick and that gets the win.
***Kofi remains undefeated in 4:07. (*3/4). This was Kofi’s best one-on-one match by far. It’s too bad it was so short and ended so decisively. Hopefully Benjamin will want another crack at him next week, and this will develop into something.
They head back to last night and show the epic Clinton vs. Obama show down. Umaga is my hero.
-Adamle gives congratulations to Clinton for winning the Pennsylvania primary tonight.
MARK HENRY VS. LITTLE GUIDO
-Both competitors where already in the ring out of the highlight package. Henry nailed Guidzio right from the get go and never let up. Basically Guido had a little offensive spurt and went up top, but Henry hit the world’s greatest slam out of it.
*** Mark Henry wins the squash in 1:20.
-They show Kane backstage and hype the “rare” cutting edge segment some more.
-They air the European tour piece they showed on Raw.
-Edge makes his way to the ring with Hawkins and Ryder.
-Edge says not to be alarmed, he, the rated-R superstar has brought the cutting edge to ECW. The man he will bring out is the man he beat last night on Raw and will be facing Chavo Guerrero Jr. at Backlash for the ECW title.
-Kane makes his way out. He hits the ring and the pyro erupts from the ring posts.
-Edge tells Kane to take a seat. Kane stays standing. Edge says that in this industry family is an important thing. He puts over the Brothers of Destruction as a dominant brother tandem. He says his parents must be proud. Kane says that his parents are dead, and if he mentions it again he will kill Edge. Ok. Edge backtracks and says Kane agreed to be here, and this is his show. He tells Kane that his life sucks, and goes into the back-story of Kane thinking he was charred, but the scars were mental. How Kane thought he’d be a father, but Lita had a miscarriage then left him for Edge. Edge then goes into how Kane ruined their wedding day. Now talk of how Edge was world champ and Kane took him out with an injury and sidelined him. Now Edge thanks Kane for putting him out, because that’s when he met Vickie Guerrero. He refers to Ryder and Hawkins as Children and Chavo as his nephew. He makes a Bam Neely reference, comparing him to a 2nd cousin. Edge says Kane and Taker stole Chavo and His titles. Edge puts over that this Sunday at Backlash his family will take back what was rightfully theirs. Kane says after Backlash Edge and Chavo won’t have the titles, or much of a family left. He’s going to destroy Edge’s nephew, and 2nd cousin Bam Neely. As far as Edge and his two sons, Undertaker will add them as victims to a family tragedy. After Backlash the only remaining member of the family will be Vickie Guerrero, all by herself.
-Wow, that last line sounds totally wrong.
-Kane then says Edge doesn’t have to worry, because him and Taker will take good care of her.
-Now they jump Kane and Chavo and Bam make their way out and gang up on Kane. They hold him to the mat while Chavo gets a chair from Edge. Chavo takes his time taunting Kane unbuttoning his sleeves and rolling them up. He acts like he’s going to swing the chair then holds up. Now he swings it and nails Kane in the leg repeatedly. “You suck” chants erupt from the crowd. Several shots to Kane’s knee continue until Chavo makes his exit. They show a close-up of the chair bent at a 45-degree angle from the shots.
