FRIDAY NIGHT SMACKDOWN RECAP
29th August 2008 --- Pittsburgh, PA

The WWE promo hits and we are taken straight live to the arena where Jim Ross welcomes us to the show.
Gong! Undertaker very slowly makes his way out to the ring to a large pop. “The Family” are shown backstage watching Taker on a TV screen. Taker growls and says that while Vickie Guerrero wants him to forgive her, he’s not the forgiving type. He says he will be coming for Vickie’s soul and once he takes it, she will “Burn…In…Hell!”. Taker gets on his knees as flames spurt from the corners of the ring. Vickie is shown very frightened backstage.
Later tonight…Jeff Hardy vs. MVP and WWE Champion Triple H vs. United States Champion Shelton Benjamin.
Another R-Truth promo airs…he’s debuting!!! His opponent…Kenny Dykstra.
Dysktra gets on the mic and brings up how WWE has neglected him. He calls R-Truth a convict, and brings up how he should have gone to jail.
MATCH 1: R-TRUTH VS. KENNY DYKSTRA
Ron looks very impressive, but the match was nothing special. Dykstra offense early on, Ron hits a high-athletic move for a nearfall. Ron hits his Scissors Kick for the win.
Winner: R-Truth
Backstage Michelle McCool is having a photoshoot, Maryse interrupts and says that it will be her last as Divas Champion.
A promo for the two Championship Scramble matches is aired (missing ECW’s).
Michelle McCool makes her way out to the ring to kick off the next match, followed by Maria. Their opponents; Maryse and…Natalya.
MATCH 2: MICHELLE MCCOOL & MARIA VS. NATALYA & MARYSE
Basically the same stuff as the exact same match which happened a couple weeks ago (or was it last week? Can’t remember). Maria looks sloppy as always. Maryse hits a DDT for the win.
Winners: Maryse & Natalya
After the match; Michelle and Maryse get into a catfight. Natalya assists Maryse and she hits a stiff shot on Michelle, knocking her down.
A video package highlighting the Jeff Hardy-MVP rivalry is shown.
Eve Torres is backstage with Jeff Hardy, he talks about MVP just being another obstacle in his way of the WWE Title. He says that later tonight MVP will be lying flat on his back with his ego and attitude intact…
Backstage; Vickie Guerrero is locked in her office. She tries to dial a number on the phone but it is not working. She throws the phone at the wall fearfully.
Jeff Hardy makes his way to the ring to a great reception. MVP makes his entrance (his NFL-style entrance inflatable thing returns :D) and the match begins.
MATCH 3: JEFF HARDY VS. MVP
Both men shove the other, MVP goes for a tackle but Jeff hits a drop toe hold. Jeff locks in a side headlock, Jeff hits two shoulder blocks but MVP throws Jeff out of the ring to sidestep his third attempt. MVP slides outside the ring for a breather. Jeff with another headlock, MVP counters and slaps Jeff. Jeff hits MVP with a few arm drags and applies an armlock. MVP retreats to the corner and takes out Jeff’s leg but Hardy whips MVP into the ring post. Jeff hits a “dropkick” from the ring apron, MVP goes to the outside again and Jeff hits a somersault splash from the apron.
Back live, Jeff still working on MVP’s arm. MVP whips Jeff into the middle turnbuckle. MVP offense throughout, hitting a slingshot suplex and kick to Jeff’s head sending him outside. MVP locks in an Abdominal Stretch, Hardy hits a Samoan Drop to counter. Jeff hits a reverse mule kick and his turnbuckle dropkick, Jeff then hits a facebuster suplex. Jeff attempts a Swanton but MVP gets his knees up. MVP hits a low dropkick on Jeff, into the ring post. MVP gets a two-count though.
MVP sets Jeff onto the top turnbuckle and hits a stiff rib kick, followed by a back kick…attempts a pin but gets two only. Both exchange some right hands, then MVP applies a camel clutch. Jeff crawls to the bottom rope to release the hold. MVP hits a bodyslam followed by a knee drop, but again a nearfall. MVP locks in another submission, Jeff fights out but MVP executes a belly-to-back suplex for yet another two-count. Jeff goes for a quick move but MVP counters with a snap back drop. Jeff hits some right hands followed by an attempted Whisper In The Wind but MVP counters and a nasty landing for Jeff. One…two…Jeff kicks out again!
MVP goes for a high-flying back suplex but Jeff counters into a crossbody for a nearfall. MVP goes for the kick but Jeff counters with some quick clotheslines. Jeff hits the Whisper In The Wind followed by the Swanton for the win. Very good match.
Winner: Jeff Hardy
After the match, Shelton Benjamin runs in and hits his finishing move on Jeff Hardy. He then hits MVP with the same move! Shelton leaves standing over both men. JR and Tazz hype Benjamin’s involvement in the Championship Scramble Match.
Later tonight: Champion vs. Champion – Triple H vs. Shelton Benjamin
This week’s “From The Vault” Match……Big Show vs. Snitsky from Unforgiven 2005. Big Show wins this match as you probably know.
The Pittsburgh Steelers are shown in the audience.
Biscuits and Gravy! Out come Jess & Festus, followed by The Edgeheads. Apparently, they are the youngest tag team in WWE History (23 years old each)
MATCH 4: JESSE & FESTUS VS. THE EDGEHEADS
The bell rings and Festus hits some powerhouse moves early on. Big Show’s music hits and he is making his way to the ring fast! The bell rings signalling the DQ finish. Big Show manhandles The Edgeheads and Jesse. Festus is motionless standing.
Winner: No Contest
Big Show gets on the mic and says that the GM is overlooking certain superstars, he tells Vickie to listen carefully. He says he will never be overlooked again, and as for what happened here it’s a mere oversight.
A promo for John Morrison airs – pretty random.
Vickie is backstage, still looking terrified and standing very still.
Victoria makes her way to the ring, her opponent…someone called Brie Bella.
MATCH 5: VICTORIA VS. BRIE BELLA
Crowd is very dead throughout, typical Diva match. Brie looks quite athletic and fast. Victoria hits a backbreaker and shoulder blocks in the corner, followed by a snap suplex and a standing moonsault. Brie crawls under the ring but Victoria pulls her out. Brie Bella catches Victoria in a small package for the three count! Victoria cannot believe what just happened.
Winner: Brie Bella
The Raw Rebound: It highlights John Cena’s injury suffered at SummerSlam and the surgery. It highlights the announcement of Cena’s replacement Rey Mysterio.
Backstage; The Brian Kendrick and Ezekiel. Kendrick says that he won the biggest match of his career last week. He says that the Scramble match is about who gets the last pin and nobody will stand in his way.
JR and Tazz highlight the Unforgiven card. They hype the three Scramble matches and the Unsanctioned Match between HBK and Y2J.
Triple H makes his way to the ring to a big reaction. A ten-second video of Shelton Benjamin saying that he is the Gold Standard is shown (hardly worth it). The real Benjamin soon follows.
MATCH 6: TRIPLE H VS. SHELTON BENJAMIN
Benjamin hits an arm drag early on. HHH applies a side headlock followed by a shoulder block, Benjamin responds with two more arm drags and an arm lock. HHH hits Benjamin with a heavy right hand. Both exchange punches, HHH with a wristlock but Benjamin aggressively assaults HHH. HHH with a takedown and another submission. Both go back and forth before HHH hits an arm DDT. Benjamin further attacks HHH and hits an elbow attack for a nearfall. Benjamin goes for a high-flying move, which HHH caught him in an attempted Pedigree but Benjamin scrambles away outside the ring.
Back from commercial, Benjamin hits a neckbreaker for a nearfall. Benjamin with a neck vice submission followed by a leg to neck submission. HHH rolls up Benjamin for a nearfall and hits a running elbow smash. Benjamin tries to suplex HHH out of the ring, but HHH suplexes Benjamin into the ring who lands on his feet and hits a neckbreaker. Benjamin with another submission, HHH fights out but Benjamin goes back on the offensive. HHH hits Benjamin with a foot in the corner, Benjamin with a drop toe hold in the corner and hits a splash in the corner. Benjamin attempts a second but HHH hits a flying forearm.
Back and forth right hands, HHH with a Harley Race high knee. Benjamin attempts a turnbuckle hurricanrana but HHH catches him with a running powerslam. Benjamin attempts a dragon kick but HHH hits a DDT for a nearfall. Benjamin catches a vicious kick to HHH’s face, but gets a two count only. Benjamin attempts the Pit Dirt but gets caught in a spinebuster. HHH signals the Pedigree but Benjamin hits a backbreaker. HHH hits a facebuster, when The Great Khali’s music hits. Khali and Runjin Singh walk to the ring. Benjamin attempts his finisher but gets a Pedigree for his troubles. The three count is then made.
Winner: Triple H
After the match, Khali and HHH stare each other down. Benjamin hits HHH in the back of the head with the US Title belt. The crowd then boos as Benjamin poses in the ring. Khali then enters the ring and hits HHH with the double handed chokeslam. Khali then poses in the ring over a fallen HHH as they show a replay of the end of the match. Khali then poses on the ramp.
Backstage, Vickie Guerrero is still in her office trapped. She is sobbing, the lights go out and just screams are heard as the show comes to a close.
