We get a video package hyping the upcoming elimination to start the show. I think it was also on the commercial for the show.
WE ARE WILD AND YOUNG! PYRO! We are in Corpus Christi, Texas this week…home of Eva Longoria! Josh Mathews & Michael Cole are your hosts. Six men's dreams will continue and one man's dream will come to an end tonight!
Matt Striker welcomes the NXT Rookies. Showtime Percy Watson! Alex Riley! Michael McGillicutty! Kaval! Husky Harris! Eli Cottonwood! Lucky Cannon! Striker explains the elimination tonight, and tells us how half the poll comes from the WWE Pros, who are on the stage. Right now, all seven will get the opportunity to prove themselves verbally. Tonight, we'll find out what's inside them, as they get a minute to talk about whatever they want other than why they should not be eliminated.
Lucky Cannon talks about friends. He didn't have a lot of friends when he grew up. His only friend was named "Nobody". Nobody really cared about him, but now that he's this close to getting to WWE, everybody cares. When he's about to pin somebody everybody cares. Thanks to nobody, he'll become somebody.
Eli Cottonwood talks about eyes. There's something he can do that nobody else can do, in the ring, or the arena, or in the WWE Universe. He can look in the eyes of a giant. He can look in the eyes of the WWE Champion, and he can look in the eyes of the Undertaker.
Husky Harris talks about Husky. His competition looks like Tarzan and fights like Jane. He's big, bad, mean and real, if you want to know how real, ask MVP how real he was last week. He looks like Husky and he fights like an army tank with a Ferrari engine.
Kaval talks about dreams. He asks if we've ever had a dream. Growing up in Brooklyn, he dreamed of performing on a great stage. People told him he didn't belong, he didn't have what it took. He performed for over a decade as Low Ki, and proved that it wasn't the size of the dog in the fight, it was the size of the fight in the dog.
Michael McGillicutty talks about how he won the obstacle course last week, and there was a video package about him last week, and everybody except one liked him…the Miz. Did he call him mediocre? Miz says he did, and he is. MM says he's 4-0 and a lot better than mediocre, and challenges Miz to a fight, claiming that he's the one who is awesome. Miz tells him to get a contract, and then he can talk to him.
Alex Riley talks about Starbucks. If it was up to the Pros or anybody with an education, he would win by a country mile. Since it's left to the democracy of dorks, they might like a Morgan Freeman or an Eddie Murphy impersonator. He refuses to change who he is to cater to the WWE Universe. He might as well be the sun because everything on the show revolves around him. He's the star, and they're star bucks.
Percy Watson's topic is having a good time. People always ask him how he's always having a good time. He says oh yeah, but life is hard, and he works hard every day. Work hard, play harder. Life is real short, keep doing your thing. If you've got the dime, he's got the time. Oh yeah!
Michael Cole says that Alex Riley won the promo segment. Josh Mathews thinks Percy Watson won, and we get a video about Showtime! Team Laycool finds him entertaining. Mark Henry says that Percy is the only rookie so far that he actually wants to see what he'll do next. John Morrisonsays that the audience has already connected to him. Miz points out there's no lenses in his glasses. Dashing Cody Rhodes says he's a solid athlete. Zack Ryder doesn't get his whole deal. Miz says he needs to be more serious in the ring. Cody says Percy has a lot going for him other than just the goofy glasses and the pretty smile.
Match 1: Rookie vs. Pro
Showtime Percy Watson (w/MVP) vs. Zack Ryder
Ryder's rookie was the first one gone, but he's still around to judge and whatnot and takes no credit for Titus O'Neil's elimination. Shoulderblock by Zack, off the ropes, elbow by Percy. He pauses to showboat and Ryder mounts and punches him. Watson gets sent into the corner. Facewash in the corner by Ryder gets two. MVP is up on the apron to give advice whileZackr drops the knee for a two. Zack with a chinlock…MVP helps get the fans behind Percy, who fights out of it. Punches by Percy but Zack takes him back down. Ryder misses the face wash, Watson with a drop kick. Whip reversed, jumping clothesline by Percy. Zack drops him neck first on the ropes. Zack misses the Ruff Ryder! Percy with the Rock DDT, and an Oh Yeah Splash (twisting standing splash) gets the three count!
Winner: Showtime Percy Watson
Percy is the first NXT Rookie to defeat a Pro in a singles match during Season 2. He looked ok here…I do think he was showboating a little bit too much and it took away from his offense sometimes, but I see potential in him.
John Morrison gives Eli Cottonwood some advice backstage. So far he's been doing great, but a way to improve is to watch tape. So they watch the obstacle course from last week. It didn't go well. I kind of like Eli's "Mustache" t-shirt. Eli says he isn't an acrobat. John says that tonight, Eli has an opportunity against Michael McGillicutty, and he has one word for him…mustache.
If Eli's finisher is the mustache ride, I'm outta here.
After a commercial break, Michael & Josh throw us to clips of the obstacle course from last week. They really like that, don't they?
Match 2: Rookie vs. Rookie
Eli Cottonwood (w/John Morrison) vs. Michael McGillicutty (w/Kofi Kingston)
Eli tosses Michael into the corner, but Michael fights right back. He runs into a shoulder block from Eli. Eli elbows him in the corner a couple of times, he whips Michael into the corner and drops him with a sidewalk slam for two. Eli stands on Michael's neck some, then steps on his ankle. Interesting. Short-arm clothesline by Eli gets a two count. Neck vice by Eli…Michael fights back while Cole does some more Miz slurping. Eli drops the elbow on Michael and then slams him down. Armbar by Eli…Michael fights back until getting an inverted atomic drop. Eli gets his leg caught on the rope, then Michael KneeDTs him. Dropkick by Michael while Cole talks about how he won a Slammy last year in this building. Michael hit's a swinging neck breaker and goes to 5-0!
Winner: Michael McGillicutty
A swinging neck breaker? How 80s. The match was decent enough for two rookies, but I don't know if it did enough to help Cottonwood's spot near the bottom of the standings. Michael didn't really need a win, but he gets it anyway. I guess winning runs in the family.
Ashley Valence talks about how there will be an elimination later tonight, and throws it to an updated (I think) video package about Kaval. MVP is impressed. Mark Henry says he's the most polished of all the rookies. Kofi talks about his quiet confidence. Cody is interested in his pros. Laycool will help him out with his flaws. Miz says he needs a bigger than life personality, Morrison wants him to lighten up. Laycool wants to fix his frown. MVP says he's made an impact. Cody says if we lived in a fair world, Kaval would be the next breakout star. Layla says they love him.
Laycool ask Kaval why he's down, and think that it's because he's not wearing his Team Laycool shirt. Husky Harris bumps into Kaval and says he's not very noticeable. Laycool point out that he was noticeable enough to be #1 in the last NXT poll. He asks if he'll let his girlfriends do all his talking, and Kaval says he does his talking in the ring. Tonight they'll have a lot of fun.
Match 3: Rookie vs. Rookie
Kaval (w/Team Laycool) vs. Husky Harris (w/Dashing Cody Rhodes)
Kaval ducks the tieup and kicks him some, but Husky throws him into the corner and pounds him down…an irish whip attempt doesn't go to well, and Kaval kicks him down for two. More kicks, but Husky elbows him, off the ropes, Kaval with a kick, Husky with a big short arm clothesline. Michelle McCool rallies the crowd behind Kaval as Husky applies a reverse bear hug…Kaval elbows his way out, European uppercut, chop by Kaval. Whip reversed, Husky misses the splash in the corner and Kaval kicks him down. Kaval runs into a clothesline by Husky, who covers for two. Husky tosses Kaval onto the apron and inadvertently knocks Team LayCool off the apron. Kaval is distracted by his pros being down on the ground, and Husky takes advantage to deliver a reverse suplex. A senton ends it in favor of Husky.
Winner: Husky Harris
This was kind of a weird match…some parts were decent, but it seemed like there were some communication issues going on during part of it. I thought Husky looked good enough to avoid elimination, but who can say for sure…I do know he won't be getting Team Laycool's vote.
Matt Striker tells the WWE Pros to tally up their votes. Coming up next…elimination time!
But first, a Raw Rebound, then Michael & Josh talking about SummerSlam, and a commercial break. What a segment!
The rookies wait outside the ring, and Matt Striker does a spiel before revealing the NXT rankings. Here we go!
1. Michael McGillicutty
2. Kaval
3. Alex Riley
4. Percy Watson
5. Lucky Cannon
Husky Harris & Eli Cottonwood step forward since we're down to the last two…
6. Husky Harris
7. Eli Cottonwood
No surprise from where I sit. Eli opts to attack Husky instead of saying anything, and he throws around some of the rookies before pushing Morrison & storming off. Husky says that if he didn't step up enough tonight, he doesn't know what it'll take. It's his competition, he deserves it. Michael says he's on the right path, and when it's all said and done, it'll be whatever and zero and he'll go on to become a world champion. Alex was not concerned when Eli jumped him, he's a much better athlete, and he's better than the two people in front of him. He'll climb to number one. Alex & Michael now get into a fight, and Eli runs back down to get him some of Husky. Striker's lost complete control of this thing and Eli rams Lucky into the barricade as we fade to black.
